A New Impetus to the Mining and Metallurgical Industry Development

On 17-19 September, Almaty hosted three exhibitions and a forum on related subjects devoted to the mining and metallurgical industry. The scale of the event was unprecedented this year: the professional business forum for mining and metallurgical industry professionals in Central Asia, MiningWorld Central Asia 2008, united the Kazkomak 2008 and Kazmet 2008 Exhibitions and the Mining & Metallurgy Innovation Forum
Accommodated by the Atakent International Exhibition Centre, the exhibitions occupied Pavilions 9a, 9b, 9c, and an outdoor area. As compared to the previous year, the exposition grew by 20% to exceed an area of 7,000 square metres. The exhibitions were attended by more than 300 exhibiting companies from 26 countries of the world. Regular exhibitors were joined by companies from Belarus, India, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, and the United Arab Emirates. Many foreign participants were presented by national stands. These included China, Norway, Finland, Germany, and Russia (with a delegation of the Ural Region enterprises). During its three days, the event was visited by 4,909 professionals.

Opening the exhibitions, Abdurasul ZHARMENOV, General Director of the National Centre for Complex Processing of Raw Materials, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, said: “A full-value information exchange is a most important factor of further development of Kazakhstan’s mining and metallurgical industry facilitating application of innovative solutions by Kazakhstan enterprises. The exhibitors and guests of MiningWorld Central Asia 2008, Kazkomak 2008 and Kazmet 2008 will get an excellent opportunity to present their products and services, familiarise themselves with the main market development trends, establish new and develop existing business contacts”.

The Mining & Metallurgy Innovation Forum, which took place on 17 September, was attended by 120 delegates. The forum was addressed by senior representatives of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Kazakhstan, Ministry of Industry and Trade of Kazakhstan, Ministry of Environmental Protection of Kazakhstan, Ministry of Emergencies of Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan’s industrial giants such as ENRC Kazakhstan, KazZinc, and KazAtomProm. Innovation projects and developments were the subjects of reports made by both foreign and Kazakhstan scientists. Foreign speakers included CEOs of major companies from Holland, Norway, Russia, the United States, and Ukraine, as well as the International Metallurgists Union. The co-organiser of the Mining & Metallurgy Innovation Forum was Oriental Co. Ltd, an engineering company. Innov-X Systems, Oracle, and SAP Kazakhstan acted as the official sponsors.

The Mining & Metallurgy Innovation Forum was opened by Alexander Danilenko, General Director of Oriental Co. Ltd, who made a special mention of the significance of the event: “Over its fourteen-years-long history, the international mining equipment exhibition in Almaty has become a popular and authoritative platform for productive communication among business circles of different countries of the world. This event gives an excellent opportunity to demonstrate the latest achievements of the engineering thought, new technologies, cutting-edge machinery, gain valuable experience, and establish new business contacts. We have the field for innovations and must use it in the right way”.

After a timeout, this year saw the comeback of the KazMet Exhibition, which featured the leading manufactures of equipment for metallurgy and metal working, machine-tool and machine building plants of the CIS and foreign nations.

“Special mention should be made of the Kazcomak Specialised Exhibition, which is marking its 5th jubilee anniversary this year and is a kind of a record-setter among exhibition events. Since its very inception, the number of Kazcomak exhibitors would grow practically in an arithmetical progression. I am sure that the subject matter of the exhibition – Quarrying, Hoisting and Handling Equipment, Industrial and Road Construction – will keep expanding in the future to include new topics as the exhibition is a reflection of the development of Kazakhstan’s industry,” says Boris Danilenko, Project Manager. Official support for the events is provided by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Kazakhstan, Ministry of Industry and Trade of Kazakhstan, Ministry of Emergencies of Kazakhstan, Almaty City Akimat (Administration), Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kazakhstan, and Diplomatic Missions of the participating countries. The unfailing organisers of the events are Iteca, an exhibition company of Kazakhstan, together with its international partners: ITE Group Plc (UK), GIMA (Germany), EUF A.S. (Turkey), and ITE China (China).

The next MiningWorld Central Asia, Kazmet and Kazcomak Exhibitions will take place in Almaty on 16-18 September 2009.
